Obituary of Salvatore Carbone

HERKIMER: Salvatore (Sal) Carbone, age 85, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. He was born on December 28, 1925 in Herkimer, the son of the late Anthony and Maria (Condello) Carbone and was educated in Herkimer schools. On July 30, 1955 he was united in marriage with Hope DeSimone at Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville with Father Paul Bondi officiating; a blessed union of 56 years. Sal was employed at Univac, the NYS Thruway Authority, as a bus driver for the Herkimer School District, a store clerk for Ralph's Liquor Store and also as a driver for the Enea Family Funeral Homes. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church and the St. Anthony's Glee Club. He enjoyed volunteering at the Herkimer Food Pantry and golfing. In his younger years, he loved to dance and bowl. Survivors include his loving family; his wife Hope; a daughter, Leann Marriott and husband Gary of Lake Orion, MI; a son, Michael Carbone and wife Karen of Randolph, NJ; four grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Marriott and Nicholas and Allison Carbone; two brothers, Rocco Carbone and wife Myrtle and Richard Carbone of Herkimer; a sister, Rose Vittore of Rochester; sisters-in-law, Carol Ciotto and husband Raymond and Sylvia D'Addozio and husband Anthony; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Isabelle Blasting and Nancy Carbone; a sister-in-law, Lucy Carbone; a brother-in-law, Emidio (Scotty) Vittore and three nephews, John (Jac) Carbone , Ralph Blasting and Mark Ciotto. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home (Harry, Kevin and Daniel Enea-Directors), 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, 866-1011, from 8:15-9:15 am on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Mr. Carbone's funeral will commence at 9:15 am on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will take place and at 10:00 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger St., Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor. The funeral procession will proceed to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. The family would like to offer special thanks to the doctors and staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare and to Slocum Dickson Medical Group for their care and kindness.
