HERKIMER: Francis (Frank) T. Chirico, age 89, a long time Herkimer resident, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at Folts Home, Herkimer. Due to his sunny personality he was known to many as ‘Happy'. He was born in Herkimer on May 14, 1922, the son of the late M. Joseph and Ida (Purpura) Chirico. Francis enjoyed a lifetime career as an engine fireman in the service of the American President Lines as a civilian seaman, and traveled the world over many times. He served in World War II in the United States Army Air force and was honorably discharged in 1947. He is survived by a brother, Matthew Chirico of Florida and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Francis was predeceased by three siblings, Mary Teresa Macrina, Theodora Demnitz and Joseph M. Chirico. A memorial service will commence on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011 and interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer with military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Harry J. Enea, Funeral Director.
