Obituary of Barbara Catlin
SAUQUOIT/ILION, NY-Mrs. Barbara P. (Perry) Catlin, age 77 formerly of
Sauquoit and most recently of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday
evening, May 20, 2011 in the comfort of her home.
She was born on September 22, 1933 in Utica, daughter of the late
Lewis Henry and Estelle Mae (Piper) Perry and graduated from Utica Free
Academy. On March 27, 1953 she was united in marriage with Edward L.
Catlin; a loving and devoted union of 48 years until his passing in
July of 2002. She was last employed with New York Telephone as
a maintenance administrator. Mrs. Catlin was very active with
Calvary Church, Utica now Grace Episcopal Church, Utica. She was a
lector and Eucharistic Minister and also served on the church vestry.
She belonged to the Sisters of St. Margaret's Samaritan Center, the
Friends of Emmaus House, New York Telephone Pioneers and the Literacy
Volunteers of America.
Barabara enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and teaching her
grandchildren these talents. She will be sadly missed and forever
remembered by her family and friends.
Survivors include her loving family; her children: Gail Kennett and
husband David of Frankfort, Daniel Catlin and wife Brigitte of
Michigan, and Karen Ruggiero and husband Luca of Ilion; sisters:
Dorothy Gigliotti and husband Stephen of Utica and Jacqueline
Cucharale and husband Richard of Clinton; two step brothers: Allan
Perry of Ct., and Earnest Perry of Ct.; a foster sister, Dolores
Julian of Nevada; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren;
many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. She was preceded
in death by a sister, Constance Amodio and a brother, John Perry.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family
Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., town of Frankfot-Ilion, NY (894-8000) on
Monday (today), May 23, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. Mrs. Catlin's funeral will
commence at 9:45 am on Tuesday, May 24th from the chapel of the
funeral where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from the Grace
Episcopal Church, Genesee St., Utica with the Rev. Beverly Moore-Tasy
and the Rev. Ann Stillman, officiating. Procession will follow to
Crown Hill Cemetery, New Hartford where she will be laid to rest. In
lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider memorial contributions to
the Emmaus House or Hospice Care., Inc; envelopes may be obtained at
the funeral home.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Parker and staff, Dr. Desai
and staff and the nurses and staff at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare
for their kindness and compassion. Also a special thank you to Clare
Nelson for her friendship and support. The family is being cared for
by funeral director, Daniel J. Enea.
