(Ackley) Mills, 89, formerly of Marshall Ave., passed away on Tuesday morning, Feb. 3, 2009 in Folts Homes, Herkimer where she has been a resident. She was born on May 13, 1919 in Frankfort, daughter of the late Leslie W. and Mary (Garvey) Ackley and graduated with the Frankfort High School, "Class of 1937." She was united in marriage to Earl A. Mills on November 21, 1940 in Sts. Peter and Paul's Church, Frankfort. Mr. Mills passed away on April 2, 2007. Mrs. Mills spent many years taking care of her family and home and was formerly employed by the Mohawk Central School District for 20 years. She attended Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Mary was a member of the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary and was Gold Star Mother. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and doing cross word puzzles. Survivors include her brother, William "Bill" Ackley and wife Jule of Ilion; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins and her special friends: Audrey DeRosa and Lillian Geraty both of Mohawk. She was predeceased by two sons: Lance Corporal David A. Mills, USMC, killed in action in Vietnam in 1966 and Robert "Bob" Mills in 2002. In keeping with Mrs. Mills' wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of the Graves-Applegate &amp; Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk. There are no public calling hours. A graveside memorial service will take place in the spring at a time to be announced in Mohawk Cemetery. Kindly consider memorial offerings in her name to the Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor. </p>
