Obituary of Adam Fowler

ILION-Mr. Adam L. Fowler, Jr., age 74, of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, July 27, 2011 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare after a long battle with diabetes. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his family. He was born on July 4, 1937 in Frankfort, the son of Adam and Margaret (Zackey) Fowler, Sr., and educated in Frankfort schools. He spent eight years in the Air Force and two years in the National Guard. On July 27, 1963, he married Mary Crisino in Schuyler. He retired from Chicago Pneumatic where he was employed for thirty four years. Mr. Fowler loved the outdoors and was past president of the Herkimer County Conservation Council, was alternate to the New York State Conservation Council as councilman from Herkimer County, member of the Adirondack Wild Turkey Federation, volunteered many hours to the New York State DEC tip line and was at one time active with Boy Scouts. For 20 years, Adam was a hunter education instructor. Because of his great love of the outdoors in 1998 he was entered into the Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame. Mr. Fowler enjoyed hunting and fishing in his leisure time. He leaves his loving family; his wife of 48 years, Mary at home; his children: Pam Foster and husband John of Sauquoit, Adam P. Fowler and wife Jeanne of Ilion and Steve Fowler and wife Adrienne of Virginia; two sisters: Karin Shannon and Susan Archer; seven grandchildren: Matthew, Cory, Marisa, Noah, Brynleigh, Tyler and Jordan; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Margaret Lawton. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (today), July 29, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort-894-8000. The funeral will commence at 7 p.m. on Friday from the funeral home with the Rev. William Wheeler, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk, officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where Military Honors will be offered. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Amy Gorczynski for her loving care and would like to specially thank the Barton West employees of the St. Lukes Home for their care.
