Obituary of Margaret A Fitzgerald

LITTLE FALLS: Margaret Ann O'Hara Fitzgerald, age 98, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Alpine Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born September 2, 1912 at Paradise, in Danube near Little Falls, NY and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth Kelley O'Hara. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1931 and from St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam Nursing Program in 1933. Margaret was employed for several years in private nursing for residents of Little Falls, then at Little Falls Hospital for over forty years, until her retirement in 1980. She cared for innumerable people and is widely loved, admired and respected throughout the community. Margaret was a long time member of the Rosarians of Holy Family Parish and the local Lady Elks. She also was a Red Cross volunteer for many years. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her longtime friend Frances Mihevc. She also traveled to Ireland with her daughter Barbara and husband, Frank. On June 27, 1938, she married Charles Joseph Fitzgerald in St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. Charles was a US Postman. He was a well-known leader in Little Falls. He died in 1984. She was predeceased by three brothers; Frank, Thomas and Charles O'Hara and four sisters; Mrs. Elizabeth Dasey, Mrs. Catherine Cody (Margaret's twin), Mrs. Rita Foley/Freese and Mrs. Rose Ashe. Survivors are: a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Joseph and Frances Fitzgerald of Little Falls; and a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Frank Gloeckner, of Great Falls, VA; and 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY and at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish, Little Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Lawless. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where Margaret will be laid to rest. Calling hours will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Little Falls, NY on Friday, July 1, 2011 from 5 PM to 7PM. In lieu of floral arrangements, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's memory to Holy Family Parish. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Harry J. Enea, Funeral Director.
