ILION-HERKIMER - Viola "Vicki" G. Gilbert, age 88, formerly of Ilion, St. Petersburg, FL, and Herkimer, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville. She was born on July 6, 1922, in Galilee, PA, the daughter of Arno and Ethel (Eldred) Gregg, and graduated from Ilion High School in 1941. Viola was married to Edward E. Gilbert on October 5, 1941, at the Ilion United Methodist Church. He died on December 17, 1969. In her early years, she was a secretary at Sperry Rand Univac. Later Viola was the Administrative Assistant for the Vice President of Marketing, at MDS, Herkimer. She also worked ten years at General Electric Co., St. Petersburg, FL. At one time, she was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. Viola formed RID (Remove Intoxicated Drivers) Chapter, of Tampa Bay, and was past President of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), of Pinellas County. She was also active in Scouts and a member of American Legion Auxiliary and National Secretary Assoc. Survivors include her children, Edward A. Gilbert and his wife, Ora Anne, of Wellesley Island, NY, James E. Gilbert and his wife, Barbara, of Herkimer, Sharon E. Fournier and her husband, Ted, of Ilion, and Donald G. Gilbert and his wife, Katherine, of Brooksville, FL; twelve grandchildren, Eddie, Gary, Lori, James, Matthew, Daniel, Erica, Ted, Trenton, Dawn, Traci and Tammy; twenty-four great-grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Steven, Christine, Brandon, Ashley, Benjamin, Thomas, Shauna, Fred, Brittany, Trey, Drew, Zoe, Skyler, Dakota, Ashton, Travis, Hannah, Austin, Joselyn, Kaelin, Kyle, Adam, Jonathan, Benjamin and Christopher; three great-great-grandchildren, Trenton, Nevaeh and Kayden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Steven and Craig Gilbert; her great-grandson, Kevin Gilbert; her sister, Alice Crossway; and her brother, Chester Gregg. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Spring interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours are Monday, February 7, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to RID – Tampa Bay, P.O.
