Obituary of Donald A Harper

LITTLE FALLS-Mr. Donald Alfred "Duck" Harper, Sr., age 79, a lifelong Little Falls resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, September 6, 2011 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born on August 28, 1932, son of the late Roland and Beatrice (Glover) Harper and educated in Little Falls School district. He was united in marriage to Mildred "Millie" DeLaney on April 18, 1996 in Little Falls; a devoted union of 15 years. Mr. Harper proudly served with the US Army during Korean War and received an honorable discharge on Nov. 3, 1952. He was employed for Burrows Paper Mill, Little Falls for 40 years of dedicated service until his retirement in 1994 due to illness. Duck was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #31. Survivors include his wife, Millie of Little Falls; daughters: Carolyn Volo and husband Joseph of Little Falls; Mary Ellen Harper of Little Falls; and Wilhemenia Ingwersen of California; granddaughters: Courtney Pawluk of Little Falls, Nicole Ivanac and husband Jason of California, Erica of California, and Amanda Ingwersen of California; a grandson, Evan Pawluk L.F.; step sons: Thomas Nobile, Robert Nobile and David Nobile; step grandchildren: Zachary and Brianne Nobile and Devon and Tommy Nobile; four great grandchildren in California; sisters: Shirley Almadinger of Little Falls, and Frances Sponable of Little Falls; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald A. Harper; two sisters: Theresa Gressler and husband Forbes and Bessie Altamuro and husband Michael; and by a brother, Cecil Harper. A heartfelt thank you is extended on behalf of the family to David Nobile for his constant care and also to Duck's sisters for their many visits. Also, a thanks to the doctors, nurses, and aides at both Little Falls Hospital and Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown for their constant care. In keeping with Duck's wishes there will be no public services. He will be laid to rest in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Because of his great love of animals, kindly consider memorial offerings to the Herkimer County Humane Society. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements into the care of the Enea Family Funeral Home (Harry, Kevin and Daniel Enea-directors), 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls.
