Obituary of Howard Hess II

<p>Howard William Hess II, 88, of DeBary, FL., died on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at DeBary Manor, FL. Howard was born in Ilion on November 26, 1922, son of Harold and Dorothy Hess. He graduated from Ilion High School. Howard married Inez Claire Bailey in December of 1942, a loving marriage of 60 years until Inez's passing on October 19, 2002. They had two children, Howard and Nancy. Howard joined the U.S. Navy in 1940 - 1946, serving in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was an electrician's mate, class II. He served aboard the NTS Newport, USS Brooklyn, USS Black, USS PC - 1188, and USS Pheasant (AM 61) Howard retired from GE Company Light Military, Utica, as an electrician after 31 years of service. He was a charter member of VFW Post 6392 in Dolgeville and served as post commander in 1965 and 1966. Howard loved scouting and served as scoutmaster for Boy Scout troop 99, St. Joseph Church, during the early 60's. He was a charter member of St. Joseph K of C. He was a member of Dolgeville and Hilltop fire departments. Both Howard and Inez were Charter Members of the Dolgeville Ambulance Corp. serving as EMT's for 13 years. After retirement Howard and Inez spent their winters in FL and summers in Cape Vincent, 1000 Islands. As time passed they choose to live in Florida year round. As a couple the loved to go boating, fishing, camping and golfing; they enjoyed their life being together. Howard was of the Catholic faith. He leaves his daughter, Nancy Souder Smith and her husband Ronald A. Smith, VanHornesville, 8 grandchildren and their families, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Howard's son, Howard W. Hess III, predeceased him on May 23, 1986, his granddaughter, Jennifer Inez Souder. predeceased him on May 8, 1994, his sister, Alda Charlesworth predeceased him on Sept. 11, 2002. Memorial donations may be made to the memorial fund of St. Joseph Church, 31 N. Helmer Ave., Dolgeville, New York 13329. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dolgeville. Arrangements are under the direction of Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts-Enea Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville. </p>
