Obituary of Roy A Harter

RICHFIELD SPRINGS: Roy Arthur Harter, age 60, a lifelong resident of Skinner Road, Richfield Springs, NY, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 at home from a brief illness, with his loving family at his side. Roy was born on February 12, 1951 in Ilion, NY, the son of the late Eleanor (Gage) and Raymond Harter. He graduated in 1969 from Mt. Markham High School in West Winfield and worked alongside of his father in the family business, Harter Brothers Moto Ski Sales & Service. Roy also worked at one time for Chicago Pneumatic, several area farms, and most recently, for M. Wheelock Disposal since 1986. On March 13, 2011, he and the former Mary (Orendorf) Belmont were married. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; sons, Jason P. and his wife Andrea of Ilion, Joshua A. of Conway, SC, Brandon VanNort and his wife Colleen of Ilion, and a stepson, Paul Belmont and his wife, Dina of Frankfort; four grandchildren; and his sisters, Betty Jane Neale of Ilion, and Helen Joan Taylor and her husband Bernard of West Winfield; and a special nephew, William Taylor and his wife Theresa, also of West Winfield. He also leaves his in-laws, Harriet Tangorra, and Paul and Marcelle Tomzewski, along with many nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor and Raymond, a sister Dorothy Edwards, and his brothers-in-law, Cosmo Tangorra, Larry Neale and Vaughn Edwards. Roy was an avid sportsman, enjoyed woodworking and loved snowmobiles. He very much enjoyed spending time with his family and helping his children. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, June 8, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (894-8000). His funeral will take place on Thursday, June 9 at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow in Cedarville Cemetery.
