Obituary of Donald Hall

ILION - Donald W. Hall, age 89, of Forge Hill Estates, Ilion, formerly a long time resident of Rt. 51, Ilion Gorge, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. He was born on May 25, 1921, in Frankfort, the son of P. Seddon and Carrie (Reese) Hall, and graduated from Frankfort schools. He was a Veteran of WW II, serving in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater. On July 3, 1943, he was married to Betty J. Paddock in Frankfort. She died on August 22, 2003. Don was employed as a Model Maker at General Electric Co., Utica, for twenty-two years, retiring on June 1, 1983. He was a member of the Ilion Moose Lodge 1010, Ilion Fish and Game Club, and the Ilion American Legion, Post 920. At one time, Don enjoyed golf and woodworking. When his children were young, he was active in sports and scouting. Don was very family orientated. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Betsy Hall, of Plano, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna J. and Gregory Smorol, of Hilton Head, SC, and Barbara E. and Michael Foster, of Poland, NY; his sister, Virginia E. Benes, of Naples, Florida; six grandchildren, Carrie, Donald and Bryan Hall, and Gregory, Stephen and Sarah Smorol; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Jeffrey, in 1960, and Christopher, in 1976. There will be a private graveside service held at the convenience of the family at Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort. In keeping with Don's wishes, there will be no scheduled calling hours or Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Ilion Moose Lodge 1010, 302 Barringer Rd., Ilion, NY 13357. The Hall family has requested that all arrangements be entrusted to their long time family friend, Don Applegate, Funeral Director, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
