Ives 89 of Salisbury Corners a life long resident of the town of Salisbury, died Tuesday November 10, 2009 unexpectedly in Little Falls. His death was due to natural causes. Everett was born in the town of Salisbury on April 21, 1920 the son of Harry C. and Mae (Walrath) Ives and was educated in Salisbury Corners school and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School class of 1938. His marriage to Dorothea Smith took place on May 10, 1944 at his parent's home in Salisbury. Mrs. Ives predeceased him on February 23, 1992. Everett was first employed by the Herkimer County Highway Department until he took a position with the Town of Salisbury Highway Department. Upon retiring from there he worked for Walt Chmielewski trucking. Everett was very community minded throughout the years, it was evident by his devotion to the Salisbury Fire Department, and county fire organizations. He was a 67 year member of the Salisbury Fire Department serving in the following positions as secretary of the Department 1944-45, 2nd Assistant Chief 1950, Chief in 1951, Treasure 1952-54, Vice President 1961, 1st Assistant Chief 1969-70, Chief 1971-73, Deputy Chief 1978 –present, Town of Salisbury Board of Fire Commissioners 1952-70, 1981-present, Became a life member in 1988 and was given the distinction of Volunteer Fireman of the year 1991. His county affiliations included Herkimer County Volunteer Fireman's Association 45 plus years, Herkimer County Fire Advisory Council 25 years, Herkimer County Fire Chief's Association, serving as president, Herkimer County Arson Task Force, he was a Herkimer County delegate to the State Legislative sessions from 1961 to the present, 1990 Fireman of the year- Herkimer County Fire Chief's Association, the New York State Fireman's Association, Central New York Volunteer Fireman's Association, he attended most State Fire Training schools, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Wildland Search and skills program, and was a member of the Herkimer County NYSDEC Search &amp; Rescue Unit from 1990 until the present. He was a Charter member of the Salisbury Volunteer and Exempt Fireman's Benevolent Association and also served as a 3 year trustee, a member of the 7 Adirondack Fire Prevention board, Herkimer County Volunteer Fire Police Association, and the New York State Volunteer Fire Police Association. He also found time to serve as a charter member of the Salisbury Historical Society, the 4-H Club, and was a judge at the Herkimer County Fair for many years. He also belonged to the Salisbury Center Grange, the Pomona and State Granges. He personally enjoyed woodworking &amp; restorations making and restoring ADIRONDACK Chairs. He is survived by his Grandson Duane R. Ives, and a Granddaughter Tina M. Ives, a Foster daughter Peggy C. Ossant of RD Remsen, his cousins Helen Ives of Salisbury and Cornelia Ives Howard of Dolgeville, his neighbors and caretakers William &amp; Susan Watkins of Salisbury, and his brother firemen in all of the fire departments throughout the area. He was predeceased by his son and daughter in law James R. and Brenda Ives. Everett's asked that the following men be recognized as his Honorary Bearers Ken D. Johnson, Herbert A. Lopez III, Theodore Ossont, Carlton Spofford, Emmanuel Stoltzfus, Thomas A. Watkins, W. Christopher Watkins and Matthew S. Winkler. His active Bearers will be members of the Salisbury Fire Department- Fred Ives, John Winkler, Dennis Winkler, Neal Winkler, Richard Nichols, Frank Danielski and Gary Farquhar. Funeral services with Fireman's honors will be held Saturday at 11 AM in the Salisbury Fire Department RT 29 Salisbury Center. Calling hours at the FIRE HOUSE are Friday November 13, 2009 from 5 – 8 PM. Burial will be in the Salisbury Rural Cemetery. Members of the County Fire Departments are asked to meet Friday evening at 6:30 PM to call in a body and offer a prayer for Everett. In lieu of flowers, Everett requested that he be remembered through the Salisbury Fire Department equipment fund. Envelopes will be available at the services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts &amp; Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville, and the Salisbury Fire Department. </p>
