Obituary of Samuel Loiacano

LITCHFIELD/ILION-Mr. Samuel F. "Sam" Loiacano, 89 of Kent Blvd., Ilion passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 6, 2010 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford on what would have been his 63rd wedding anniversary. He was born on July 12, 1921 in West Winfield, son of the late Dominick and Mamie (Castellano) Loiacano and educated in Litchfield schools. On December 6, 1941 he was united in Holy Matrimony with Harriette Welch in St. Joseph's Church, West Winfield; a loving union of 62 years until her passing on June 10, 2003. The couple resided in the town of Litchfield for many years before moving to Ilion in 1960. Sam was self-employed for his entire working career and the owner and operator of Sam's Construction and also the former owner of Benny's Grille. He was of the Catholic Faith and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, Frankfort and also belonged to the St. Francis Society of Frankfort. Mr. Loiacano loved being with his family who will miss him dearly. Survivors include his loving family: two brothers: Joseph Loiacano of Ilion and Thomas Loiacano and wife Amelia of Frankfort; two sisters: Beatrice Tocco and husband Joseph of Cedarville, Mary Cushman of Mohawk, in laws: Joseph Bello of Frankfort and Amelio Papa of Frankfort; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are many great friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Josephine Farouche, Rose Cushman-Pazzilo, Virginia Papa and Mamie Bello and by a brother, Andrew Loiacano. The Loiacano family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., town of Frankfort, 894-8000 on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 11am until 1:00 p.m. Sam's funeral will commence at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11th from the chapel of the funeral home where a prayer service will be held and at 1:30 p.m. from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort St., Frankfort where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort where he will be laid to rest. Kindly consider memorial offerings in Sam's name to Herkimer County Humane Society or to Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on the 2nd floor at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare for their kindness and compassion. Members of the St. Francis Society will conduct their service at 12noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
