"Hank" Loopman, 96, of North Street, Mohawk, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. Mr. Loopman was born on August 27, 1913 in Mohawk, a son of the late Henry C. and Ida May (Alvord) Loopman. He was educated in Mohawk Schools. Henry married Madeline Cress in Herkimer, who passed away in 1991. He was employed for many years as an assembler at UNIVAC Manufacturing in Ilion. He was of the Methodist faith. Henry was an accomplished and well known local musician, spending more than 65 years entertaining in many areas, most recently in central New York, playing with the group, "The Physicians," dispensing musical medicine in many nursing homes. Hank brought so many nursing home patients so much joy, and brought back so many good memories to all that he entertained. He was the founder of "The Neodackians Orchester" and "Henry Loopman &amp; His Orchestra." He also played with Bruce Petrie and "Billy O'Brien's New Yorkers Traveling Band," playing in nightclubs and on boats throughout the northeastern US and many Adirondack hotels. He also played at Smalley's Theater in Mohawk during the silent movie era. Hank was a member of the Mohawk Masonic Lodge and the Civil Air Patrol at Rome Air Depot. Henry is survived by his son, Fred Loopman and his wife, Blair, of Sarasota, FL; cousins, Irene Furestine and Dorothy Garnsey of Ilion; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline; his parents; a sister, Pearl Robotham of Middleville; his long time companion, Dorothy Malone of Ilion; and his friend, Margie Powell of Mohawk. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service, conducted by the Reverend Jack Cogar, at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort (315-894-8000).
