Obituary of Carl Mirwald

Herkimer: Carl F. Mirwald, age 92, passed away on May 27, 2011 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. Born on September 28, 1918 in Western, NY, he is predeceased by his wife of seventy years, Mable Jeanette Mirwald; his three brothers, Wenzel, John, and Rudy; and his sister, Ann. Carl is survived by his three daughters, Julie Maurer, Donna Devitt, and Janet Edge; his sons-in-law, Daniel Maurer, Guy P. Devitt, and Grey Michael; his four grandchildren, Daniel Maurer, Amy Seitz, Andrew Devitt, Jeanette Devitt; and seven great-grandchildren. Carl, a veteran of World War II, was employed by New York State Electric & Gas, where he worked for forty-one years. In addition, he was an archaeologist with the Morgan Chapter of Science in Rochester, NY, and was a sought after speaker on Native American lore. His artifacts have been exhibited in the Buffalo Museum of Science, as well as the Archaeology Museum at Herkimer County Community College. An active member of the Kiwanis Club, he was also a hunter, farmer, carpenter, mechanic, clockmaker, and artist. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, May 30, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (866-1011). His funeral service will be conducted by Deacon Joseph DeLorenzo at the conclusion of calling hours(7 pm). Burial will take place at Jolls Cemetery in Gowanda, NY, at the convenience of the family.
