Obituary of Ina Morgan

MOHAWK - Ina M. Morgan, age 92, formerly of 3 Petrie Ave., Mohawk, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born September 28, 1918, in Mohawk, the daughter of Frederick and Ruth (Rhoda) Riggs. Ina graduated from Mohawk High School and Louise School of Beauty, Utica. On March 22, 1941, she was married to Johnson Morgan, Jr., in Mohawk. He died on March 30, 1997 (Easter Sunday Morning). Ina was employed as a bank teller and bookkeeper at Oneida National Bank, Mohawk, for many years. She was an active member of Mohawk Reformed Church and its choir, a member of the Bicentennial Choir and a fifty year member of the Eastern Star of Mohawk. Most recently, she was a member of the Mohawk Valley Bell Choir. She was also a volunteer with her husband for Meals on Wheels Program, RSVP and Red Cross Blood Drives. Survivors include her daughter, Karon (Ward) Morgan, of Canandaigua; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Morgan, Sr., and Catherine, of Mohawk; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Ward and wife, Seana, of Farmington, NY, Kristin Ward, of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Morgan, Jr., and wife, Kate, of Mohawk, Daniel Morgan and wife, Lee-Ann, of Canton, Peter Morgan, of Mohawk, and Mary Shepherd and husband, Marc, of Mohawk; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Ward, Robert Morgan, III, Elizabeth Morgan, Morgan Short, Jonathan Morgan, and Benjamin and Molly Shepherd; her brother, Arnold "Arnie" Riggs and his wife, Marilyn, of Mohawk; her nephews, Wayne Riggs and Michael Morgan. She was predeceased by her husband. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Mohawk Reformed Church, 18 S. Otsego St., Mohawk, NY, with Rev. Brian Engell, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the funeral service. The Evening Star Valley Chapter #82 O.E.S. service will be held 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, prior to visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Reformed Church or Valley Health Services. Envelopes will be available during services at the church or anytime at the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home's new location at 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion. The Morgan family has requested that all Ina's service arrangements and supervision to be entrusted to Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
