MOHAWK-HERKIMER - Carl F. Newman, Sr., age 89, formerly of Columbia St., Mohawk, Protection Ave., Herkimer, Texas and Florida, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Folts Home, Herkimer, NY. He was born on February 10, 1921, in Herkimer, the son of Jesse and Pearl (Bruce) Newman, and attended Herkimer schools. Carl was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Navy. On November 18, 1939, he was married to Mary L. Eagan in Herkimer. She died in February 2007. Carl was employed as a lumberjack at Parks Lumber Co. for several years and was a Maintenance Supervisor at Pasadena Manufacturing Co. for fifteen years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Ilion American Legion Post #920. Carl was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his children, Carl Newman, Jr., and Diane Dileo, of Fort Plain, Patricia Cox, of Carthage, NY, Robert Newman and wife, Suzanne, Shirley Mitchell and Bob Barhydt, all of the State of Washington, Millie Elmandorf and husband, Ed, Sharon Seeman and husband, Chet, all of Virginia, and Carol Barhydt, of Texas; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bennie and Clarabelle Pizzo, of Frankfort; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and son-in-law, Richard Dallas. He was predeceased by his wife; his daughter, Constance Dallas, in 1999; his brother, Lester Newman; and two sisters, Mildred and Leona. Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Pastor Jack Cogar officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2010, from 12 noon – 1 p.m., prior to the funeral services.
