<b>Visitations</b> <p>None.</p> <b>Services</b> <p>A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2009 in St. Johnsville Cemetery.</p> <b>Cemetery</b> <p></p> <b>Obituary</b> <p>Tillamook, Oregon-Memorial services for John Anthony Nirri, 82, who passed away on November 20, 2008 were held on November 25, 2008 in Tillamook, Oregon. John was born on October 23, 1926 in St. Johnsville, son of the late Vincent and Lillian (Mancini) Nirri and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. In 1942, he left school to join the U.S. Navy during World War II and was assigned to a destroyer escort, the USS Farquhar guiding destroyer ships on the East Coast to Britian and protecting them from German Subs. John returned to St. Johnsville and finished his education. He then married Fern Sponable at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Parish House. They moved to California where John attended California Aero Tech. Institute and received his airline and power plant mechanic's license. He was employed by United Airlines in California and later returned to New York and earned his flight engineer's license. After his schooling, John joined the Army National Guard. In 1959, John married Ingeborg Olthoff. Early in the marriage John accepted a job with American Airlines as a maintenance instructor. He later worked for Pan AM, Air America and Japan Airlines as a contracted government pilot and lived in Taiwan and Japan where he was transferred to Tachy Ka Wa, Japan as a flight engineer for Air America where he flew missions to Vietnam, India, Africa and the Philippines during the Vietnam War. John relocated to the US and purchased a hardware store in Tillamook for a few years then returned to flying for Zantop Airlines, flying government contracts. After John retired he and his family remained in Tillamook where he enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, playing trombone in the community band and with the Nehalem Boy Stompers Band. He especially enjoyed playing Dixie Land. John was a great cook and enjoyed baking many of his late grandmother's fine Italian dishes. John was a master gardener who was so proud of what he produced and sharing with his neighbors and friends. John was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Besides his wife Ingeborg Nirri, he is survived by four children: James Nirri of Denver Colorado, Tami Clyburn of Cassatt, South Carolina, Jan Burgess of Columbia, SC, and Jason Nirri of Tillamook; a sister: Marianne Douglas and husband Gordon of Little Falls; grandchildren: Kara Clyburn and Elizabeth Clyburn, Laurel Widdifield, Ellen Widdifield, April Berteau, Christy McNally, Adam Dickenson and Jessica Amanda Nirri who lived with John as a small child; nieces: Diane Tooley and husband Scott and Leanne Roopca and husband Luke; nephews: Gordon Douglas, II and wife Cathy, John Douglas and wife Cristie all of Little Falls and Daniel Douglas of California. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2009 in St. Johnsville Cemetery where John's ashes will be interred by his sister, Marianne Douglas.
