Newman, 85, a longtime valley resident, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, town of New Hartford. Mary was born June 9, 1921, in Dolgeville, daughter of the late John and Clara (Lamphere) Eagan. She attended Herkimer schools. On Nov. 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Carl F. Newman at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer, a blessed union of over 67 years. Mary was last employed as a housekeeping supervisor for Pasadena Management Co. in Pasadena, Fla. At one time she worked at Quackenbush Mfg. in Herkimer. Originally from Herkimer, Mary and her husband Carl resided in Texas and Florida prior to returning to the Mohawk Valley. She was a member of the Ilion American Legion Post 920 Auxiliary and at one time enjoyed fishing, swimming and, most of all, spending time with her beloved family. Survivors include her husband, Carl; loving children, Sharon and her fianc? Chet Seaman both of Mohawk, Shirley and Robert Barhydt of Washington, Mildred and Edward Elmondorf of Ilion, Carol and James Barhydt of Ilion, Carl F. Jr. and Diane Newman of Mohawk, Robert and Suzanne Newman of Washington, and Patricia Newman of Little Falls and her fianc? Mark Stevens; 33 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Clarabelle and Bennie Pizzo of Frankfort and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Connie Dallas in 1999, and two brothers James and Thomas Eagan. Mary's funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27 (tonight) commencing at 7 p.m. at the Applegate &amp; Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Jack Cogar officiating. Family and friends are invited to visitation Tuesday (today) from 5-7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. The Ilion Legion Post 920 Auxiliary will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Mary's name to the American Heart Association.
