Overacker, 76, a lifelong Ilion resident passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 9, 2007, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. Harold was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Ilion, son of the late Harry and Lillian (Staley) Overacker. He attended Mohawk Schools. Harold was a proud veteran serving with the U.S. Army in Korea. He was presented the following medals for his service; Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and the United Nations Service Medal. On May 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Pearl A. Kahrs in the Ilion First Presbyterian Church, they shared a blessed and devoted union of 56 years. Harold was employed as a postal carrier by the U.S. Postal Service in Ilion for approximately 30 years retiring in 1990. Over the years, Harold held many part-time jobs, always keeping busy. He was a member of the Ilion Elks Lodge 1444, enjoyed playing Horseshoes, loved dogs, and was an avid pool player. At one time Harold was a volunteer with Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and the Herkimer County Humane Society. His life was centered at all times around his beloved family. Survivors include his wife, Pearl at home; his children, Dana W. Overacker and his wife Becky of Utah, Chris Overacker and his wife Sue of Ilion, Mark H. Overacker of Albany, Julie Pomodoro and her husband Frank of Massachusetts, and Gregory Overacker of Mohawk; his cherished grandchildren, Adam, Benjamin, and Linnea Overacker, Dustin and Erik Overacker, Kyle Overacker, Samantha Overacker; his step grandchildren, Alyssa Kerber, and Roxanne Gutheinz; and one great-granddaughter on the way; one sister Mary Overacker of Ilion; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and pool playing buddies. He was predeceased by his grandchildren, Alexander and Caroline Pomodoro; and his half-brother, Harry Overacker. Family and friends are invited to visitation Monday, Aug. 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Applegate, Day and Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. The Ilion Elks service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Harold's funeral service will be held Tuesday morning commencing at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Victor McKusick, pastor of the Ilion First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Processions to Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion for interment with full military honors will follow the funeral home service. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions in Harold's name to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Kidney Foundation, or the Herkimer County Humane Society.
