Obituary of Frances Phalen

MOHAWK-Mrs. Frances P. (Moynihan) Phalen, age 65, of Miller Road, town of German Flatts, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, June 6, 2011 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family members. She was born on August 26, 1945 in Herkimer, daughter of the late John and Mary (McCloud) Moynihan and graduated from Herkimer High School, "Class of 1963". She furthered her education attending Mohawk Valley Community College receiving a Registered Nurse Degree. On February 12, 1966 she was joined in Holy Matrimony with David S. Phalen in Herkimer who passed away on May 27, 2010. She was last employed with Valley Health Services, Herkimer in Infection Control, retiring in 2010. Mrs. Phalen was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Frances was truly and completely devoted to motherhood and eventually her role as grandmother. She remained involved with her family and extended her affectionate spirit, her concerned attitude and generous nature to each of her loved ones. Frances illuminated the lives of all those who knew her and she will be sadly missed. Survivors include her devoted family; her daughter: Debra J. Phalen and friend Bill Buddenhagen of Mohawk; several close in laws: John Phalen and wife Jean of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lois Nevils and husband John of Swampscott, Mass., Kathryn Knewasser and friend Jay of Frankfort, Michael Phalen of Herkimer and Thomas Phalen and wife Eileen of Mohawk; two cherished grandchildren: Mark Walts of Mohawk and Adam Walts and wife Toni of Herkimer; one adored great grandson: Adam Walts, Jr.; a sister in law, Jean Moynihan of Herkimer; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Moynihan, by a sister, Kelly Myers, and by in laws: Barbara Phalen, David Knewasser and David Myers. The family will be present at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, 866-1011 on Wednesday morning, June 8, 2011 to receive relatives and friends from 8:30 am until 10:15 a.m. The funeral will commence on Wednesday, June 8th at 10:15 am from the funeral home with a prayer service taking place and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where she will be laid to rest.
