Obituary of Barbara Rivenburg

MOHAWK-HERKIMER - Barbara J. Binney Rivenburg, age 75, of Sherwood Acres, Herkimer, formerly of Rt. 5S, Mohawk, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at home. She was born on August 7, 1935, in Utica, the daughter of John and Mertice (Rose) Ricci. Barbara attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Mohawk High School. In 1952, she was married to John Binney, Sr., in Mohawk. He passed away in 1997. She later married Clarence Rivenburg, in Mohawk, on October 22, 2001. At one time, Barbara was an assembler at Mohawk Data Sciences for ten years. She later became a nurse's aide at the Mohawk Homestead for twenty-five years, retiring in 1997. Survivors include her husband, Clarence; her daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Timothy Rathbun, of Mohawk, and Sally Ann and Chet Szymanski, of Little Falls; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Susan Binney, of Mohawk; her stepson, Terry Rivenburg, of E. Herkimer; eleven grandchildren, Ross, Beau, Sarah and Jenell Binney, Chad Binney, Timothy and Emily LaLonde, Karleigh, Miranda and Timothy Rathbun, Jr., and Chet Szymanski; four great-grandchildren, Jadyn Rathbun, Michael Olney, II, Rylee Ruthford and Shay Binney; her brothers and sisters-in-law, John, Jr., and Maryann Ricci, of Az., and Frederick and Pam Ricci, of Boonville; her sister and brother-in law, Patricia and Leo Bala, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special niece, Robin Lawrence, of Trenton Falls, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, John Binney, Jr., and three sons, Allen, David and Richard Binney. A Memorial Prayer Service will be held 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion. Spring burial will be in Litchfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., prior to the funeral home service. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Bassett Healthcare, Herkimer, Cancer Treatment Center. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Binney and Rivenburg families have requested that all arrangements be entrusted to Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
