Obituary of Leslie Rockefeller

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Leslie Richard Rockefeller (Les) joined his Lord on April 22, 2010 from the home at which he resided for the past 63 years. He was born on June 6, 1924, in St. Johnsville, son of John & Martha ( Mosher) Rockefeller. A life-long resident of St. Johnsville, he was educated in St. Johnsville schools, and enlisted in WWII serving with the Army Corp of Engineers in Africa and Italy. After being severely injured in the line of duty, he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was united in marriage with Doris E. Nellis on June 22, 1946. Leslie spent his life in the textile industry with 30 years in the local Palatine Dye. His last employment before retiring was as head of quality control at the Johnstown Knitting Mills. He was a life-long member of Grace Christian Church and the Masons. Survivors include his wife Doris, his sisters Beverly Puznowski and Lois Battisti, his son Carl and wife Denise of Fort Plain, his daughter Beth Close and husband Sterling, his grandchildren Collene Brownell, Michael Rockefeller, Jason, Kathryn, and BreAnne McGowan, Joseph DeAngelis IV, Rachel Clark and husband Adam, Christopher and Heather Close and Amanda Rowlands; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Kara DeAngelis, brothers Gordon, (John) David, George and Raymond Rockefeller. In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 1st, 2010, at 11:00 am at Grace Christian Church. Burial will be Monday, May 3, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Johnsville Cemetery. Military honors will be offered by the U.S. Army. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Leslie's name be made to the American Heart Association or Grace Christian Church. Envelopes may be obtained at the church during the memorial service. The family is being cared for by the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.
