Obituary of Stanley Sakowski

HERKIMER/ILION-Mr. Stanley Sakowksi, age 90, formerly of 410 N. Washington St., Herkimer most recently residing with his daughter, Joy Gould of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, August 5, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Utica, NY on December 14, 1920, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Janusz) Sakowski and educated in local schools. He was united in marriage with Olga Banach on October 9, 1940; a loving and devoted union of 46 years until her passing on Feb. 29, 1996. Mr. Sakowski served proudly with The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) which was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for young men. For many years he was employed with Remington Arms, Ilion and formerly employed with Sperry Rand-UNIVAC. He was a member of the New Life Church, Herkimer. Mr. Sakowski found much happiness in being in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and watching sports. He will be missed and forever fondly remembered by his family. Survivors include his children: David Sakowski and wife Patricia of Fremont, CA and Joy Gould of Ilion; his cherished grandchildren: Erik and wife Katie Gould, Kimberly Morrison and husband Malcolm, Tracy Hoch, Kelly Andreassi and husband Mike; his adored great grandchildren: Erik, Kayla, Courtney, Chandler, Parker, Ella and Lhotse; his siblings: Helen Sakowski-Moore of Oregon and Nellie Krol-Lesko of Mohawk; Edward Sakowski, Emily Sakowski-Hanselman of Rochester, Dolores Sakowski-Culver of PA, and Gerald Sakowski North Carolina; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by siblings: John, Jean and Peter Sakowski, Joseph Gadbaw, Helen Sakowski, Andrew Janus, Veronica Krol-Deshaies, and Adeline Krol-Martynec. The family will gather privately at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer (866-1011) to say goodbye with Pastor David Haynes, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer alongside his wife. Kindly consider memorial offerings in Mr. Sakowski's name to Hospice Care, inc. or to the New Life Church of Herkimer, envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. The family would like to acknowledge the staff and nurses of Hospice for their kindness and compassion offered to Stanley. Arrangements are entrusted into the care of Funeral Director Daniel J. Enea.
