Obituary of Cosimo Tangorra

<p>Herkimer-Mr. Cosimo Tangorra, Sr., age 70, of Pleasant Avenue, entered into eternal rest on Monday afternoon, March 22, 2010 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 20, 1939 in Herkimer son of the late Philip and Mary (Buttiglione) Tangorra and graduated with Herkimer High School, "Class of 1958". He entered military service with the United States Army in August of 1964 and was honorably discharged in July of 1966 and served with the military police in Vietnam. On February 15, 1969 he was united in marriage with Harriett Orendorf in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer celebrating 41 years of marriage this past year. Cosimo was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the New York State Thruway Authority from 1971 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer. Cosimo was happiest when surrounded by family and friends especially his cherished grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his beloved family; his wife Harriett; two sons: Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. and his wife, Mary Lourdes of Herkimer, and Philip Tangorra and his wife, Rosanne, of Frankfort; a daughter and son-in-law: Cara and Edward Johnson of Ilion; his adored grandchildren: Cosimo, Gabrielle, Angelina, and Philip Tangorra, and Tessa Johnson. He also leaves his siblings: Vita Palumbo of Frankfort, Frank Tangorra, Bella Aiello, Lucy Marollo, and Rose Maida, all of Herkimer, Michael Tangorra and his wife, Joan of Ohio, Philip Tangorra, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Frankfort, Janet Palmieri and her husband Bill of Herkimer, Palma Calenzo and her husband David of Herkimer, Kathy Barrett and her husband Frank of Ilion; his aunt: Bella Bono of Frankfort; in-laws: Theresa Tangorra and Anita Martin of Herkimer and Paul Zito of Frankfort, Mary Belmont and Roy Harter of Richfield Springs, and Marcelle and Paul Tomaszewski of Weedsport,; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers: Richard "Dick" Tangorra and Alex Tangorra; by a sister: Elaine Zito and by his father in law and mother in law: Alfred and Odette Orendorf. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. Cosimo's funeral will commence on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 9:45 am from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10:30 from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main Street, Herkimer with the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor officiating. He will be laid to rest later in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
