Obituary of Walter Young

<p> Mr. Walter J. Young 77 a resident of the Folts Home in Herkimer since February, and formerly of 307 Seeley Road Stratford, died Tuesday evening July 27, 2010 at the Folts Home. He was born in Little Falls, on July 31, 1932 the son of Walter A. and Mildred (McAuliffe) Young and attended St. Mary's elementary school in Little Falls. His family moved to Stratford and he completed his education by graduating from Stratford central School, class of 1951. A veteran of the United States Army he served honorably from November 21, 1952 until October 26, 1954 when he was discharged at the rank of Cpl. His marriage to the former Patricia Burris took place on October 23, 1952 in Salisbury Center, with the Rev. Percy Dolling officiating. Walter was employed for 22 years at the Standard Desk Company of Herkimer, retiring from there in 1976 when the business closed. He then was self employed, retiring in 1997. He was a charter member of the Stratford Fire Department, and a member of the Fish &amp; Game Club of Stratford. His personal enjoyment was in sports, having played basketball for some 40 years for the town team and rooting for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He is survived by his wife Patricia of 57 years, a son and his wife Michael and Lisa Young of Salisbury, his Grandchildren Michael B. Young and his companion Amanda, Kayla and her husband Jeromy Ploss, Tim, Kyle and Ashley Harlow, his great grandchildren Ashton, Eann and Madison, a Sister in law Joyce and her husband Richard Ploss of Dolgeville. He was predeceased by a son William in 1982. Funeral services will be held Saturday July 31, 2010 at 11 AM at the Roberts &amp; Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville, with the Rev. John Reams officiating. Burial will follow in MT. View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls. Calling hours are on Friday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the S&amp; S Ambulance Corps or to the Folts Home, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. </p>
