He was born on January 25, 1917 in Little Falls, the son of the late Michael and Christina (Medvid) Yaworski and graduated with Little Falls High School, Class of 1935. On October 12, 1946 he was united in marriage with Jane Mastromatteo in St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls; a devoted and loving union of 62 years. A proud United States Veteran, he courageously served with the US Army Air Corp during World War II. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of Staff Sergeant. Walt was last employed with Sperry Rand Univac and was at one time employed with MDS and Allegro. He was a communicant of Holy Family Parish. Walter enjoyed his family the most, especially his loving wife Jane; his daughter Lori Fletcher (former teacher in the Little Falls City School District) and her husband Tim Fletcher of Herkimer; his son, Dave Yaworski and his wife Susan of Webster; his three cherished grand-daughters: Tracy Malowski and husband Mathew, Leah Thomas and husband Chris and Erin Yaworski; his great grand-daughters: Paige Elizabeth Malowski and Reese Christine Malowski; three step-grandchildren: Patrick and Kendra Schramm and Tiffany Fletcher. Walter loved to work in his garage and home. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic and loved fixing things. There was nothing Walter would not repair or build. If not at home, he was always helping his neighbors and friends whether it was re-building a friend's house or harvesting a friend's garden. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He loved his country and often talked about his years in the Army Air Corps. While in the Air Force, Walter was a skilled mechanic who worked on and repaired World War II bombers. He was twice commander of the American Legion Post 31 and was instrumental in the present and past relocations of the Legion Post. For 50 years, Walter always showed up the week before Memorial Day to put flags on the graves of fellow servicemen. He enjoyed spending time at the American Legion every Tuesday and Thursday and played cards there up until his recent illness. Walter's strong character as a man, husband, father, grand father, great grandfather, uncle, brother in law and friends will surely be missed. His words of wisdom to his children will be an ever-lasting legacy. His devotion to his wife, Jane, is a testament to their long lasting marriage. His hard work philosophy is truly an inspiration to his family. Besides his immediate family listed above, survivors also include his in laws: John and Mary Surace, and Frank and Donna Mastromatteo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Anne Fukes, and daughter in law: Jane Yaworski. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home (Little Falls) on Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 3-6 p.m. Mr. Yaworski's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Monday, August 3rd, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered thence to Holy Family Parish, Little Falls where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest and Military Honors will be offered by the United States Army. In lieu of floral tributes, kindly consider memorial offerings to the Holy Family Parish Memorial Fund or the American Heart Association; envelopes and donations may be made at the funeral home. The family would like to offer their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Faxton/St. Luke's Healthcare and Dr. Max, Dr. Liu and also the staffs of Valley Health Services, Herkimer and Little Falls Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Members of the American Legion Post #31 of Little Falls will conduct their service at the Enea Family Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.</p>
