Young 75 0f 6440 State Hwy 29 St. Johnsville, retired business manger for the Dolgeville Central School died Sunday October 22, 2006 in St. Elizabeth?s Hospital Utica, after suffering an apparent heart attack on Saturday. He was born in Oppenheim on February 27, 1931 the son of the late Chauncey and Edna Mae (Clemons) Young and was a graduate of Oppenheim Central School; class of 1949. He furthered his education after serving in the United States Air Force by graduating from the Albany Business College. A Veteran of the Air Force he served during the Korean War with the 47th Air Police Squadron and was honorably discharged with the rank of S/Sgt. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal upon his discharge. His marriage to the former Cecilia Wagar took place on July 7, 1956 in Gloversville, NY. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this past July. Grant was the business manager for the St. Johnsville Central School district for many years prior to coming to the Dolgeville Central School. He retired from the Dolgeville School system in 1996. Because of his interests in education he was currently serving on the Board of Education for the Oppenheim- Ephratah Central School and was a former president of the Board. He was also actively involved in the school reading program. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, and attended Emmanuel Bible Church in Mohawk, New York. One of his personal interests was in attending his Air Force Reunions. He is survived by his wife Cecilia of 50 years, His sons and their wives Greg and Jodie Young of Charlotte, NC, Brad and Chris Young of Wilmington, NC, his Daughters and their husbands, Jill and Todd Neff of Belvedere, Ill., Susan Grota of St. Johnsville, Joanne and Lance Maly of Old Forge, Barbara Ullman of Sharon Springs, His Brother and his wife Leonard C. and Dorothy Young of Oppenheim, his Sisters Betty Lou Montana of Oppenheim and Janet and her husband Leo Fitzpatrick of St. Johnsville, His Grandchildren Jared, Melanie, Ethan, Austin, Abigail, Andrew, Benjamin, Jonathan, Megan, Marissa, Garrett, Emily and Spenser, a Sister in law June Young of Oppenheim, Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his Brothers Arthur and Harold Young. Funeral services will be held Thursday October 26, 2006 at 11 AM at the Grace Baptist Church on Van Buren Street Dolgeville with the Pastor Gary Wilcox officiating. Burial will be in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Roberts &amp; Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Emmanuel Bible Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
