<p>Mrs. Dorothy "Ya Ya" (Ermides) Gregory, age 87, of Little Falls, more recently a resident of Valley Health Services, Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 6, 2005, at Little Falls Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on April 26, 1918 in Albany, NY, a daughter of the late Manuel and Rose (Paranofska) Ermides. When Dorothy was young, she worked with her father at the Boulevard Meat Market in Albany as a cashier and accountant She was a graduate of Albany High School and attended the Mildred Elle Business school. She has spent the greater part of her life in Little Falls and also lived 20 happy years in Holiday, FL.
On September 7, 1941, she married Peter G. Gregory at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church in Albany, NY. They shared 51 blessed years together before Mr. Gregory passed away on February 23, 1993. Their marriage was founded on love and honor for each other which became the roots of their ever-growing family.
When Mrs. Greogory was a young girl she belonged to the Philoptochos Society and was an active member of the Greek Choir at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church in Albany. Dorothy was most well-known for her restaurant, Kandyland, on Main Street in Little Falls, which she owned and operated with her husband for 30 years. During Dorothy's retirement in Florida she volunteered at the senior citizen's center delivering food to those in need. Upon returning to Little Falls she was a faithful member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and also volunteered at the church pre-school. She was an unfaltering and dedicated member of her family. She took great pride in her Greek heritage by instilling the traditional values in her family and those around her. Lastly, and most importantly, she enjoyed being with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren where she was their special "Ya Ya."
She is survived by her beloved children, Pam Smith and her husband David of Little Falls, George Gregory and his wife Anne of Albany, Virginia Darrohn and her husband David of Manlius, Maria Geraty and her husband Richard of Little Falls; a sister, Mary Menerey and her husband Merle of Prescott, AZ; her grandchildren, Kevin Smith and his wife Thuy, Kristopher Smith and his wife Stephanie, Peter Gregory and his wife Karen, Jonathan Gregory, Kimberly Darrohn and her husband Gary, Aimee Darrohn and her husband Mark, Richard Geraty, and Rosanne Geraty; her great-grandchildren, Ben, Evan,Tyler, Liam, Jordan, Emma, and Sophia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Savas Ermides and her sister Ethel Sophinos.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2005, from 5-8 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St. in Little Falls. Mrs. Gregory's funeral will commence on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 9:15 a.m. where prayer will be offered from the chapel of the funeral home and at 11 a.m. at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church where her funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father Patric Legato. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Albany following her Mass where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Little Falls Hospital for their remarkable and outstanding care for Dorothy during her stay. They are also extremely thankful and appreciative for all of the people that cared and supported Dorothy during her final days.
