Zane Youker 78 of 432 Hopson Road Dolgeville, a resident of the Alzheimer?s Unit at Folts Home in Herkimer, died on Thursday October 20, 2005. Zane was born in Utica, NY on April 15, 1927 the son of the late Clarence J. ?Stub? and Catherine (Goodman) Youker, and was educated in Dolgeville Schools. A World War II veteran he joined the Merchant Marines in 1944, and was assigned to delivering supplies to the troops in various parts of the world. He was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard in August of 1945. Zane was a baker for many years in Kamps Bakery of Dolgeville and he also had his own bakery ,Drake?s Bakery of Little Falls. He became manger of the Dan Dee Donuts in Herkimer and served in that capacity for many years. Upon retirement he went to trade school for refrigeration and air conditioning repair. Zane also was employed by the Dolgeville Central School and the Salisbury Town Hall as a custodian for several years. Zane had many hobbies, hunting at his cabin in Leipzig, Town of Salisbury, and model airplane flying, where he was a member of the Black Sheep Squadron Model Airplane Club. He served as Cub master of Pack 18 and a former Scout Master of Troop 18 Dolgeville for many years. He spent summer vacations at the Boy Scout Camp Russell on White Lake for many years. He received the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, BSA and the Silver Beaver Award for his years in scouting. He was a member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge #796 F &amp; AM , a volunteer at the Little Falls Hospital, a member of the former Dolgeville Ambulance Corps and also of the former Alfred Dolge Hose Company . Zane was energetic and always kept busy doing most anything. Zane married the former Deborah Darling on March 29, 1946, and they have enjoyed a union of 59 years. Besides his wife he is survived by his Daughters and their husbands Delia ?Dee Dee? and Richard Howard of Clifton Park, Sherrill and Mark Buck of Gales Ferry, Ct., his sons and their wives Marshall and Lamoine Youker of Hopewell, Virginia, Harold and Cynthia Youker of Stewarts Landing, his Grandchildren, Christopher Howard of Montgomery, NY, Jennifer and her husband William Reidy of Montgomery, NY, Stefanie Buck of St. Paul, Minn., Eric Buck of Minneapolis, Minn., James Youker of Richmond, Va. And Megan Youker of Prince George, Va. Ellen and her husband Andrew Coghill of Charles City, Virginia, A Sister Dian Crowley of Dolgeville, a Sister in Law Maxine Youker of Dolgeville, N nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his Brother William ?Bill? Youker on October 10, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 25th, 2005 at 11 AM at the Roberts &amp; Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville. Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb of the Inghams Mills Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Rural Park Cemetery, Town of Salisbury. Calling hours are on Monday from 5-8 PM. Members of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge will hold ritualistic services on Monday evening at 7 PM. Memorials in Zanes? name may be made to Boy Scout Troop 18 or to the Alzheimer?s Association of Central New York. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
