<b>Obituary</b>
<p>DOLGEVILLE-Mr. Walter Zilkowski, 92 formerly of 79 Spencer St., passed away on Monday morning, November 2, 2009 peacefully in Alpine Healthcare Center, Little Falls.
He was born on July 22, 1917 in Little Falls, son of the late Maryan and Rose Marszalkowska Zilkowski and educated in Little Falls schools, graduating with the Class of 1935. At one time he resided in the Syracuse area and has been a resident of Dolgeville since 1978. He was united in marriage with Bertha Zeniss on August 27, 1949 in St. Joseph Church, Herkimer with the Rev. Vincent Nowak, pastor officiating. Mrs. Zilkowski passed away in 1992. Walter was a United States Veteran having served with the Army during World War II. He enlisted on January 17, 1941 and was honorably discharged in July 14, 1945 holding the rank of Sergeant. He was last employed as a letter carrier for the US Post Office of Syracuse, retiring after 20 years of service in 1977 and was formerly employed with Hansen's Laboratory. For many years, Mr. Zilkowski was a devout member of St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville.
Mr. Zilkowksi was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
Survivors include two nephews: Richard Zilkowski and wife Judy of Little Falls and Gary Zilkowski and wife Beverly of Oppenheim and a niece: Barbara DeAngelo and husband Nick of East Aurora, NY; many great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Levonski and by a brother: Zigmund Zilkowski and also by two nieces: Carolyn Covuoto and Gail Zilkowski.
