"Jerry" Zajac, 55, of East German Street, a lifelong Herkimer resident, went to be with the Lord on Friday evening, March 17, 2007 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. He was born in Herkimer on November 20, 1951, son of Richard and Olga (Sokerka) Zajac and graduated from Herkimer High School. He furthered his education graduating from Mohawk Valley Community College with an associate's degree then from Oneonta State University with a bachelor's degree in science. Gerald was currently a property/real estate appraiser with R A D and Associates, Rome. He was a faithful and dedicated communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer. Gerald's church came first in his life. His home contains numerous religious items from the original St. Anthony's, St. Joseph's Church. He was a member of the New York State Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. Jerry loved everything mother-nature offered. From fishing, snowmobiling, gardening and camping, he always took full advantage of the great outdoors. His gardening talents were often recognized by the Herkimer Garden Club from which whom he received numerous awards. He also enjoyed decorating for the holidays and received many citations for his hard work. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting ham radios and had an extensive Hess Truck collection. He was known as "Mr. Diplomat" by other ham operators throughout the valley. A beloved son and dear friend, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His parents will always cherish the wonderful and fond memories that they shared with their only son throughout his lifetime. He leaves his beloved parents with whom he resided: Richard and Olga (Sokerka) Zajac of Herkimer; and many cousins. His aunt, Anne Sokerka, passed away on March 13th of this year. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Holleran &amp; Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 on Wednesday in the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer, to be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Funeral cortege will follow to Holy Trinity Cemetery, Utica, where entombment will take place.
