Zuis, 76, of 326 Eastern Ave., Herkimer, passed away on Sunday afternoon, August 14, 2005. Mrs. Zuis was born on July 8, 1929, a daughter of the late Walter and Theresa Chmielewski. She was educated in Herkimer Schools. On March 10, 1948, Betty married John Zuis at St. Joseph's Church, Herkimer, with the Rev. Novak, pastor officiating. The couple shared a 57-year union, one that was securely founded upon their mutual love, support and dedication, and one that brought them great joy and satisfaction. Betty's last employment was with Van Allen's Nursing Home as a cook supervisor. She was a parishioner of Sts. Anthony and Joseph's Church, Herkimer. She was member of the Herkimer American Legion and a life member of the Salisbury Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club. Betty was very active life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was past Fourth District and County president for three terms for the Herkimer County Council V.F.W. Auxiliary, Post #4915 . Betty took great joy in being a loving wife to her husband of 57 years and a mother to her children. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed welcoming friends and family to her home. Everyone was always welcome. In particular, Betty enjoyed hosting "Grandma Betty's Christmas." She leaves many friends and neighbors to mourn her passing. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride and comfort to her. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her. Survivors include her loving husband, John; one son, Alan J. Zuis and his wife Karen of Little Falls; two daughters, Valerie Schreck of Frankfort and Pamela Blum of South Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Frances Zuis, Irene Zuis, and Evelyn Chmielewski; one brother-in-law, Charles Zuis; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Petronella, Andrew Bliss, Joseph Schreck, Abigail Schreck, Audrey Zuis, Andrea Zuis, Alexander Zuis, Greg Llewellyn, Stephanie Blum, and Zachary Blum; three great-grandchildren, Anthony and Nicholas Rocco and Sidney Bliss; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece Donna Zaffarano. Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Benjamin and Theodore Chmielewski; her sisters, Charlotte Cigale and Victoria Lombardo; a brother-in-law, Edmund Zuis; a son-in-law, Douglas Schreck; and a baby brother, Valentine Chmielewski. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the Holleran &amp; Enea Family Funeral Home, 222 N. Washington St., Herkimer. Betty's funeral will commence on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 9 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Anthony and Joseph's Church, Herkimer, with a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where Betty will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Envelops will be available at the funeral home. Members of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post # 4915 will conduct their service on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
