MOHAWK / COLUMBIA - Evelyn H. Shaw, 100 years old, formerly of Jordanville Rd., Richfield Springs, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011, at Folts Home, Herkimer, where she had been a resident. Evelyn was born on August 24, 1911, in Dalmuir, Scotland, the daughter of David and Annie (Ferrier) Black. In 1929, she and her family left Scotland for their new life in America, residing in Schenectady, NY. Evelyn became a founding member of the Mohawk Valley Hiking & Ski Club, through which she met Lawrence Shaw. They were married in 1935. Evelyn is survived by four children, including two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and James Perry, of Oriskany, NY, and Frances Green, of Florida; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Virginia Shaw, of Richfield Springs, and Andrew and Kay Shaw, of Denver, CO; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; two sisters, Lena Sterling and Nan Dilibough; and son-in-law, John Green. In accordance with Evelyn's wishes, a private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the immediate family.
