Obituary of Michael J Leonis

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-ILION-Mr. Michael J. "Mike" Leonis, Sr., age 63 of Tulip Drive, Ilion, a longtime Richfield Springs resident entered into eternal rest on Tuesday evening, November 1, 2011 at home with the loving support of his family by his bedside. He was born on September 2, 1948 in Ilion, son of Michael F. Leonis of Ilion and the late Marietta (Slocum) Leonis and attended Mount Markham schools. On October 26, 1974 he was united in marriage with the former JoAnne Dziadik in Christ United Church, Richfield Springs; recently celebrating a loving union of 37 years. Mr. Leonis served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was proudly employed for 38 years with the Remington Arms Company, Ilion holding the title of Custom Gunsmith. Mike will be sadly missed by his entire family and most of all by his adored grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, JoAnne of Ilion; his father, Michael also of Ilion; two children, Michael Leonis Jr. and wife Michelle of Amherst, NY and Thomas "Tom" Leonis of Ilion; sisters, Dawn Cawley and husband Steve of Ilion and Joann Savicki of Frankfort; a brother, Gary Moreau of Florida; three adored grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew Leonis and Isabella Leonis and her mother Amanda Ortiz; in laws, Joseph and Gael Dziadik of Phoenix, NY, Chris Bond of Ilion, Tom Dziadik and wife Peggy of Richfield Springs, and Terry Dziadik and wife Amy of PA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Valerie Ulin and by his wife's parents, Joseph and Leila Dziadik. In keeping with Mike's wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visitation on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 9:30 am until 11 am at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort-894-8000 and also invited to a memorial service commencing at 11 am at the conclusion of calling hours. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion where inurnment will take place. Kindly consider memorial offerings in Mike's name to the American Heart Association; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mike's family is grateful to the Frankfort Fire Department and Ilion Police Department professionals that responded to the home and handled Mike and his family with personal care and compassion. As a final tribute and to help those who are in need, Michael has donated his organs. "An Exclusive Veteran and Family Memorial Care Provider." The family is being cared for by Funeral Director, Daniel J. Enea.
