Obituary of Eugene Cobb

FRANKFORT: Eugene P. Cobb, age 87, a longtime Frankfort resident, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011, at Masonic Care Community in the comfort of his loving family members. He was born on December 31, 1923, in Buffalo, the son of the late Rex and Mildred (Dematte) Cobb. He received his education from Ilion High School. On September 15, 1951, he married Mary "Martha" LaPuma at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort. At the time of his passing, they were married 60 years in a loving, sharing, committed relationship. Eugene was an extremely proud World War II, US Army Veteran, serving in the European Theatre of Operations. He served his country faithfully and with honor and was honorably discharged on January 29, 1946. He was employed for many years at the Union Fork & Hoe Company. Eugene was a faithful communicate of Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Frankfort. He belonged to the St. Francis Society, Young at Hearts Senior Citizens (lifetime member), Civic Service Club, past President of the PTG of St. Mary's School, Diamond Service Club at the Union Fork & Hoe and along with his wife Martha, served Meals on Wheels for 14 years. He loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting and fly tying. Eugene enjoyed reading, building doll houses and cabins for his grandchildren along with working on model trains. His true passion was spending time with his family; his wife, children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Martha of Frankfort; his sons, Paul and wife Brenda of Clark Mills, Gene and wife Bonnie of Ilion, Gregory and wife Melissa of Frankfort; a daughter, Mary Beth Hilley and husband Kevin of Pigeon, MI; grandchildren, Patrick Hilley and wife Julie, Matthew Hilley, Joshua, Justin, Travis, Evan, Ryan, Danielle and Janelle Cobb; great grandson Ian Hilley; in-laws, Frank and Marie LaPuma of Frankfort, Peter and Ann McKevitt of Frankfort, Donald Varin of Mohawk and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Alice Grippe. Funeral services will be begin at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, (Harry, Kevin and Daniel Enea, Directors) 4309 Acme Rd., Frankfort-Ilion (315) 894-8000 and his Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort with the Very Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort where he will be laid to rest. Friends and relatives may pay their respects at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens will conduct their service on Sunday at 4 p.m. and members of the St. Francis Society are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6 p.m. for a service.
