Obituary of Edward Banks PhD

Edward Walter Banks PhD, 87 of 50 Millers Grove Road Dolgeville. Died unexpectedly, Sunday December 4, 2011 at his residence of natural causes. Dr. Banks was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 10, 1924 the son of the late Walter and Celia (Keller) Banks. He began his educational career by graduating from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor degree in education, continuing at the University of Virginia he received his Masters degree in education and completed his Doctoral degree in education at the Universidad Nacional de Venezuela. Dr. Banks was employed as the Naval Commandant at the Military School in Jacksonville, Florida, as the High School Principal Grades K-12 in Bronson, Florida, the Dean of the Business College where he also taught Math in Jacksonville, Florida and the Senior High School principal in Clewiston, Florida. Relocating to this area in 1981 he was the Superintendent of the Stratford Central School until it's' merger with Dolgeville in 1984. Prior to his retirement in 1985 he was the Director of Research, Transportation and Attendance until his retirement in June 1985. A Veteran of World War II he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from January 1942 until he was discharged in February 1945. He participated in action against the Japanese at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian, and Saipan. He was married to the former Jacqueline Nold who predeceased him on July 7, 1998. He was an avid New York Yankee fan, and raised Great Dane dogs as his hobby. Surviving is a Son Edward N. Banks of Dolgeville, a daughter Cinda Banks of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a Grandson Aiden, and his canine companion "Gracie". In keeping with his wishes there are NO formal funeral services or calling hours.
