Obituary of Gilda Bussone

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mrs. Gilda Bussone,90, formerly of E. Liberty St. passed away on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Loretto Nursing Home in Syracuse with her loving family at her side. She was born on April 13, 1921, in Supino, Italy, daughter of the late John and Mary (Coletta) Francesco. On May 2, 1943 she was united in marriage with Frank P. Bussone Jr. at St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville. Their loving union lasted 30 years until Frank's passing on March 11, 1974. Gilda lived in St. Johnsville most of her life.She was a sewing machine operator at Corso Dress Factory in St. Johnsville. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville and was also a member of the Rosary Society. Survivors include her beloved family: her sons: John Bussone and his wife Judy of Syracuse, Frank Bussone and his wife Donna of Peabody, MA and Richard Bussone and his wife Danielle of Abingdon, Virginia; her brother Rocco Francesco and his wife Martha of College Place, Washington; her sister Palmena (Pam) Slaughter of Ft. Pierce, Florida; her sister in law Betty Francesco of Sebring, Florida; her 4 grandchildren: John Bussone Jr., Samuel Bussone, Frank P. Bussone IV and Steven Bussone; her 6 great grandchildren: Andrew Bussone, Erin Bussone, Maria Bussone, Angela Bussone, Jonathan Bussone and Alexis Bussone and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents: John and Mary; her husband Frank; and by her brother Lorenzo. Her family was grateful to have been able to take her to Supino, Italy in 2004 to visit her extended family and realize a life-long dream of attending the Feast of San Cataldo, the stories of which had been told to her by her mother since childhood. Of Gilda, her family expresses their deepest love and affection. She was an original, there will never be another Gilda Bussone. She is irreplaceable and will be sorely missed. A religious service will be held at 12pm on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville with Rev. Rafal Dadello officiating. Procession will follow to St. Johnsville Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. As she aged, Gilda witnessed many of her friends become incapacitated with Alzheimer's Disease. The fear of contracting this disease hung over her like a specter, even to the final weeks of her life. In lieu of flowers, her family believes she would prefer donations be sent to help abolish the disease which took the lives of so many of her friends and created so much concern in her own.
