Obituary of Ronald J. Miers PhD

St. Johnsville: Ronald J. Miers, Ph.D., age 57, a long time St. Johnsville resident, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 12, 2012 in Berlin, CT. Ron was born on May 13, 1954 in Ilion, a son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Knowles) Miers. He was a graduate of Ilion High School. Dr. Miers continued his academic studies at Herkimer County Community College, receiving a Associates Degree in Accounting; Syracuse University at Utica College, receiving a Bachelors degree in Construction Management; and furthered his path in education by returning to college later in life to receive a Masters Degree, along with a PhD in Construction Management from SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry (ESF). Dr. Miers was currently working as an Associate Professor at Central Connecticut State University. At one time, he also held positions at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC and Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. Dr. Miers, extremely proud of his accomplishments, served professional affiliations at the national level, serving as Director of the Northeast Region for the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC), the Journal of Construction Education and Research, the American Institute of Constructors (AIC) Journal, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal, and the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) Journal of Construction Management. Although he had many professional accomplishments, his greatest passion and strongest loyalties belonged with his family, spending time with his grandchildren, who adored their "Poppy". Ron derived much pleasure from tending to his flower garden, golfing, fishing and woodworking. He truly enjoyed working on home projects. Ron is survived by his companion of 22 years, Diane Brown; a son, Ronald J.
