Obituary of Sue Chizzonite

LITTLE FALLS-Mrs. Sue (Assunda) M. (Lamanna) Chizzonite, 89, a longtime resident of West Monroe Street, went home peacefully to be with the Lord and beloved husband Dominick on Saturday morning, November 7, 2009 in Kingsway Arms Healthcare Center, Schenectady. She was born on January 25, 1920 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Antonio and Incornata (Perna) Lamanna and graduated from Little Falls High School. On January 1, 1944 she married Dominick Chizzonite in St. Joseph’s Church, Little Falls. Throughout their 62-year union, one which was based upon their mutual love, admiration, and regard, Sue and Dom shared a deep commitment to one another and the joys and responsibilities of family life. In her earlier years, Sue assisted her family in the operation of Lamanna’s Grocery Store. She then gained employment with Automotive Fibers Corporation and finally the P and K Dress Factory in Little Falls. Faith was of extreme importance to Sue throughout her life and she was a devoted Catholic attending Holy Family Parish, Little Falls where she was a Eucharistic minister and Rosary Sodality Officer. A generous and giving woman she donated her time to many various charitable and volunteer organizations and was a member of the Little Falls AARP, Rock City Senior Citizens and ILGWU Garment Workers Union. Sue was a genuinely loving and engaging woman. Gifted with a caring and generous spirit, a sensitive and sympathetic heart, a warm and fun-loving personality, and a soft-spoken and understanding manner, she was an exemplary wife and mother. Her life and her attentions were focused on her family; her husband; her children, siblings, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her deep and steadfast love for her family was the source of her lifelong and constant support of them in every aspect of their lives. Survivors include three beloved children: Barbara Hoke of Schenectady and her husband Ira Charles, Richard Chizzonite and wife Lynna Lesko of Kent, Ct., and Jan Chizzonite and wife Kathi of Fairfax, Va.; six adored grandchildren: Jason Hoke and wife Gina of Alaska, Daryn Hoke of Schenectady and his partner David Segarra of Hartford, CT, Joshua Chizzonite and wife Jeanne, of Houston, TX, Lucas Chizzonite of New Orleans, LA, Cristopher Chizzonite of Kent, CT, and Sunnie Mae Chizzonite of Kent, CT; her cherished great grandchildren: Alexandra Hoke, Mathias Dominick Hoke, Ethan Hoke, Dominick "Nico" Haines Chizzonite and Luca Chizzonite; one sister: Lucy Cunningham of Schenectady and brother ,Charles Lamanna and wife Ann of Albany; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends in Little Falls. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Michael, Luigi and Ralph Lamanna; three sisters: Grace Lamanna, Angela DePiazza and husband Samuel and Louise Ciletti and husband Dominick and by a special brother in law: William Cunningham. She is also predeceased by in laws: Louis and Agnes Chizzonite, Rocco and Josephine Chizzonite, Anthony and Sara Santillo, and father in law and mother in law: Anthony and Mary Chizzonite. The family extends sincere thanks to the caring staff of Kingsway Arms Community and Healthcare Center for their guidance and care and also for their level of compassion and professionalism. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Chizzonite’s name may be made to Holy Family Parish Memorial Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral parlor. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 5-8 p.m at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls. A closing prayer will be offered at the end of calling hours. Mrs. Chizzonite’s funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Sts., Little Falls where the Rev. Anthony Ligato will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. The Holy Family Parish Rosary Society will form an honor guard at the church service on Wednesday. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer where she will be laid to rest. Arrangements are by director Daniel J. Enea.
