Obituary of Clara Morotti

LITTLE FALLS-Mrs. Clara (Tomei) Morotti, 89, formerly of 117 Loomis St., and most recently residing at Riverview Manor, Owego, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. She was born on November 6, 1919 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Sam and Erminia Tomei. She grew up on the south side where she made lifelong friends and loved telling stories about playing ball in the park and swimming in the canal. Clara married Jacob George Morotti on June 29, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Little Falls. After they were married, they moved to New York City where Clara worked for Bulova while George went to school for watch making. The couple then opened Morotti Jeweler’s and many Little Falls residents will remember Clara’s contagious smile behind the counter. Clara continued the business after George’s passing in 1977 until 1982. Clara began volunteering in the outpatient area of the Little Falls Hospital in 1987. She received her 500 hour recognition pin in 1992. In addition to volunteering, her lifelong dedication to her church included daily novena, teaching religious education classes and she was also a Eucharistic Minister. Clara also loved to spend time cooking and baking. Among her many specialties, two of the family favorites were her spaghetti sauce and potica. Those recipes have been passed down for more generations to enjoy. Later in life, Clara also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her Afghans and ever famous booties kept family and friends warm during cold upstate winters. Clara is survived by her loving daughter and son in law: Lois and Pete Long of Owego. In 1999, Clara moved to Owego to live with Lois and Pete where Lois selflessly cared for her mother on a daily basis. Clara is also survived by her sister: Mary Fennimore of Little Falls; two loving grandchildren: Marian and her husband Patrick Ellis of Portsmouth, NH, Michelle and her husband Marc Billings of Schenectady; two great grandchildren: Samuel and Liam Ellis of Portsmouth, NH; a brother in law: Joseph Zuccaro of Mohawk; a sister in law: Virginia Morotti of Herkimer; Clara is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many loving friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial Mass on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Herkimer. There are no public calling hours. The family is being served by the Enea Family Funeral Home, Harry J. Enea, director. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider memorial offerings to the Holy Family Parish Memorial Fund; envelopes will be available in the vestibule of the church on Thursday.
