Obituary of Frances Casale

HERKIMER/SARATOGA-Mrs. Frances P. (Pape) Casale, of 8 Winners Place, Saratoga Springs, NY, age of 72, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Leukemia on December 5, 2009. She was born in Utica, NY., on Nov. 6, 1937, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marian (Gigliotti) Pape. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Casale, retired Fire Chief of the Village of Herkimer (residing in Saratoga), and the beloved mother of Suzanne Carter (Tom Camardello), Cohoes, Marianne Hoosier (Earl) Saratoga, and Joseph Casale, Jr. (Caroline), Burnt Hills. She was the proud grandmother of five precious grandchildren: Stefanie and Kaleigh Carter, Tyler Hoosier, and Ben & Haley Casale. Frances graduated from Herkimer High School in 1955 and was employed by the NYS Dept. Mental Hygiene in June of that year. She served for 4 years as a Sr. Steno. She married classmate Joseph Casale on July 27, 1957 and after their children entered school she resumed her career at the Herkimer County BOCES, retiring August 1996 as Secretary to the District Superintendent. Following retirement, the Casales sold their lovely Herkimer home at 537 Lake Street, Herkimer, and relocated to the Saratoga area where their children and grandchildren make their homes. She has enjoyed Country Line Dance classes taught by Kevin Richards and Sean Flaherty for over 10 years in the Saratoga area. Frances was predeceased by brothers, Joseph (Karen) of San Antonio, Texas, in 1998; Robert and wife Rose of Albany, 1986 & 2007; and Harry and wife (Lee) Pape, of Oneonta, NY, 1948 and 1990. Her survivors include nieces and nephews: Jean (Kit) Cotrell, Nashua, N.H; Joseph (Karen) Pape, Atl., GA., Pam (Pape) & Tom Lamb; Watervliet, Robert (Marie) Pape of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral Arrangements are as follows: Calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer will be on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. Her funeral service will commence at 8:30 am on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 9 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer where her mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where she will be laid to rest. The family is being served by funeral director Harry Enea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Leukemia/Lymphoma Society; envelopes will be available at the funeral parlor.
