Obituary of Bruce Clark

Herkimer: Bruce E. Clark, 96, of Prescott Street, Herkimer, passed away on Sunday morning, November 8, 2009 in Little Falls Hospital. Mr. Clark was born on May 20, 1913 in Herkimer, a son of the late Glenn and Leah (Edwards) Clark. He was educated in Herkimer schools. Bruce married the former Ethel Francisco on November 10, 1939 at the Middleville Methodist Parsonage, a blessed and loving union of nearly 70 years. In fact, they would have celebrated their anniversary tomorrow. Mr. Clark, a WW II veteran, was a member of the US Navy, serving in the Pacific. He was stationed in Okinawa and Iwogima, Japan and served on the John L. Williamson Destroyer Escort. Mr. Clark was employed as a supervisor at Bendix Corp., Utica, and also assisted with his brothers in operating Clark Brothers Garage in Ilion. He was member of the Herkimer Methodist Church, the Herkimer VFW, and was also a member of the Herkimer Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He assisted in forming the Mohawk VFW on April 14, 1947 and was one of the first commanders. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife: Ethel; sons: David Clark and his wife Joyce of Keithville, Louisiana and Russell Clark and his wife Mary Ellen of Herkimer; a daughter: Lois Van Allen and her husband Jere of East Herkimer; grandchildren: Karen Talbot and her husband Stuart, Christopher Van Allen and his wife Mandy, Rebecca Clark, and Michael Clark; great-grandchildren: Miranda and Madeline Talbot; a brother: William Clark of Liverpool; sisters-in-law: Loretta Clark of Whitesboro and Mary Clark of Ilion; also, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers: Gordon and Richard Clark. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 4-8 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer (866-1011). Mr. Clark’s funeral will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the funeral home. Committal services with full military honors will immediately follow in Middleville Cemetery. The family would like to extend a thank you to Herkimer County Public Health for their assistance during Bruce’s illness.
