Obituary of Mary T Cumm

Herkimer: Mrs. Mary T. (Grande) Cumm, 87, of Herkimer passed away with her loving family at her side on Sunday, January 17, 2010 in Valley Health Services. Mary was born on May 2, 1922 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (DePalo) Grande. She was educated in Herkimer schools, graduating with the class of 1940. On October 16, 1976 she married John Cumm in St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer. John passed away on December 1, 1983. Mary was last employed as a receiving clerk with MDS, Herkimer retiring in January 1984. Prior to that she was employed for 22½ years at Derby Sportswear also in Herkimer. Mary was a member of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church and a life member of the Herkimer VFW Auxiliary Post # 4915, and was past President from 1973-1975. Mary was a life member of the VFW National Home. She was also a member of the United Retirees of the Mohawk Valley and the Herkimer Senior Citizens. Mary is survived by four sisters-in-law: Claudine (Fusco) Grande, Madeline DeMars and Ruth Cumm all of Herkimer, and Shirley Cumm of Little Falls; also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband John, brothers: Joseph and his wife Betty, Italo and his wife Carol, and Dominick; and a sister: Emily Lorenzoni and her husband Fonzi. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday (TODAY), January 19, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer (866-1011). Members of the Herkimer VFW Auxiliary will meet to pay their respects on Tuesday evening at 6:15 and the Herkimer Senior Citizens at 6:30. Her funeral will commence on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 9:30 AM with prayer at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass, celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Vail at 10 AM in Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, S. Main Street, Herkimer. She will be laid to rest in the Spring in Calvary Cemetery. Mary’s family would like to thank the nursing staff of Valley Health Services for their care and compassion during her stay.
