Obituary of Paul DeCeglie

HERKIMER-Mr. Paul J. DeCeglie, 84 of E. German Street, passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2009 in Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Syracuse. He was born on June 30, 1925 in Herkimer, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Lomazzo) DeCeglie and graduated from Herkimer High School. On October 16, 1948 he was united in marriage with Alfonza “Florence” Minarchi in St. Joseph’s Church, Little Falls. Mr. DeCeglie was a United States Veteran serving during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He entered service in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was last employed with the Rudy Scialdo Construction Company and was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer where he served as an usher for many years. He was a former member of the St. Anthony Crusaders and the Anthony R. George Post, both of Herkimer. Paul was a member of the Michael S. Pliseck Post #4915. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife: Alfonza “Florence” of Herkimer; a son and daughter in law: Paul and Mary Ellen DeCeglie of Ilion; two daughters: Ann Marie Rooke and husband Patrick of Herkimer and Lorraine Tesoriere and husband Joseph of Saratoga; five cherished grandchildren: Laura Layer and husband Howard, Michael Rooke and wife Jennifer, Paul DeCeglie, Alyssa DeCeglie, and Christopher Rooke; six great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins and two brothers in law, their spouses and family’s. There are no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to his Mass of Christian Burial commencing at 10 am on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, officiating. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest.
