Obituary of Viola Dunton

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Viola M. Dunton, 97 passed away peacefully on October 1,2009 after a five month stay at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. She was born May 19,1912 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of Josephine (Vallecorsa) and Natalino Iacobucci and her stepmother Hilda Iacobucci.She was married to Stacey “Jerry” Dunton on November 29,1941 in St. Patrick’s Parish Hall and they were together for nearly 68 years. Their late, dear friends Olga and Larry Tolfa were their attendants. Vi was predeceased by her beloved sister Virginia and her husband William S. Sillery; and on September 8,2009 by her nieces husband Ted DiPonzio; and also Hilda’s St. Johnsville family Mary and Lena Palitti and Clara Johnson. Vi graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1932 and after graduating from Mildred Elley Secretarial School went on to become a beautician and eventually an office worker at the Beech Nut plant in Canajoharie. She was one of the founding members of the St. Johnsville Business Girls and a member of the Rosary Society and the St. Johnsville Senior Citizen’s Club. She is survived by her husband Jerry; her daughter Cheryl Blaydon and step children Sarah and Sean Blaydon and their father Frank Blaydon. She is also survived by her niece Natalie Sillery- DiPonzio; nephew William J. (Cathy) Sillery and his children Elaine (Jordan) Laccetti and Jaclyn Sillery; her St. Johnsville cousins Gloria (Jack) Laraway and their children Dawn and Dennis Laraway; Suzie Corso and her son Peter (Mary Lou) Corso; her “adopted” son Robert Failing III and his son MacKenzie; her goddaughter Sandra Tolfa Weckter and her brother Joseph Tolfa. Vi was a small woman with a large presence and because she touched so many and lived among us for so many wonderful years, it is impossible to name all of you. But her family wishes to thank the staff of the Nursing Home for their care and kindness and friends Lucy Licari and Molly Battisti for seeing us through this final stage. There are no calling hours. Her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am Thursday October 8,2009 at Our Lady of Hope R.C. Church, 32 Center St. Saint Johnsville ( formerly St. Patrick’s ). Procession will follow to St. Johnsville Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. Since Vi and Ginny were “library girls” ; for those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please do so to the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, 19 Kingsbury Ave, St. Johnsville,NY 13452. Envelopes will be available at her memorial mass and also at the funeral home.
