Obituary of Mary Rapacz

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mary (Politylo) Rapacz, 89, a longtime resident of Mill Road, St. Johnsville, passed away unexpectedly at St. Johnsville Nursing Home on Oct. 23, 2009. Daughter of Mathew and Tekla (Hajtko) Politylo, she was born in Herkimer on Jan. 25, 1920. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School and Utica School of Commerce. On Oct. 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Michael Rapacz, Jr. at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Herkimer. The couple shared 59 years together until Michael’s passing on Dec. 3, 2005. Mary worked for the village of Herkimer, the Crocker Insurance Agency of Herkimer, was a homemaker, and, in later years, worked in the family business, Michael Rapacz and Son, St. Johnsville. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a longtime member of the St. Johnsville Business Girls. She is survived by a son, Mathew of St. Johnsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Ronald Butkovich of Southold; a granddaughter and her husband, Laryssa and Craig Cornell of Southold; a grandson, Stephen Butkovich of Deer Park; a great-grandson, Collin Cornell of Southold; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Anna Politylo of Herkimer; a sister, Margaret Pupchek of Mooresville, N.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jerry Lyktey of Whitesboro; nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by a sister, Julia Polansky. Mary’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moore Ave., Herkimer with Reverand Ivan Semko officiating. Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from Enea Family Funeral Home, Center St., St. Johnsville. Interment will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church or to St. Johnsville Nursing Home Residents’ Council. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
