Obituary of John Crowe

MOHAWK-Mr. John V. Crowe, 87 of Church Street, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with his loving family at his side. He was born on February 10, 1923 in Hartwick, son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Yates) Crowe and graduated from Mohawk High School. On June 7, 1947, John was united in the Sacrament of Marriage with Cecelia Minosh in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk with the Rev. Thomas Scott, officiating; the couple has shared a blessed union of 62 years filled with dedication to each other and each of their family members. A proud Veteran of World War II, John served for 2 ½ years during the China India-Burma conflict with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of Corporal. He was last employed as a machine operator with the former Library Bureau retiring at age 67 after 42 years of dedicated service. John was a life member of the Mohawk American Legion Post #25 where he was a devoted member for 60 years. Mr. Crowe’s greatest joy was his family; he considered his children and grandchildren to be his foremost priority and his greatest happiness. He constantly demonstrated his loving, kind and generous nature with his caring and considerate heart and shared a special bond with his grandchildren that brought him special joy and great pride. In his leisure time, he loved watching sports. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his loving family; his wife Cecelia of Mohawk; his children: Joseph Crowe and wife Kathy of North Carolina and Mary Crowe of Mohawk; his grandchildren: Taralyn and Brian Pinder of North Carolina, Kelli Crowe of Ilion and Michael Crowe of Pa.; his great grandchildren: Ty Pinder and Hadley Mae Pinder of North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and wonderful friends and neighbors in Mohawk. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday (TODAY), February 15, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000. Mr. Crowe’s funeral will commence at 11 am from Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Father Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Spring interment will take place in Mohawk Cemetery. Kindly consider memorial offerings to Blessed Sacrament Church or MOVAC Ambulance; envelopes are available at the funeral parlor. The family deeply grateful to numerous people who have been of great assistance and comfort offering John loving compassion and care especially St. Luke’s Hospital especially mentioning the doctors, nurses and staff in the Critical Care Unit. Also, a heartfelt thanks to the volunteers of MOVAC who displayed much professionalism during this difficult time. Members of the Mohawk American Legion Post #25 will conduct their service at the Enea Family Funeral Home at 6:00 on Monday evening (tonight). The family is being served by funeral director, Daniel J. Enea.
