Obituary of Florence Cushman

FRANKFORT-Mrs. Florence P. (Grippe) Cushman, 86 formerly of North Frankfort Street, Frankfort, a longtime resident of Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday evening, December 29, 2009 with her family at her side. Mrs. Cushman was born on Feb. 28, 1923 in Frankfort, daughter of the late Philip and Frances Cuomo Grippe and educated in Frankfort schools. On March 5, 1941 she was united in marriage with John F. Cushman in St. Mary’s Church, Frankfort; Mr. Cushman passed away on December 18, 1962 after 21 years of marriage. Following the passing of her husband, Mrs. Cushman owned and managed J.F. Cushman Company which manufactured industrial cutting tools. She was last employed at Quick Stop Convenient Stores in Frankfort. Mrs. Cushman was a longtime, devoted communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Florence took wonderful care of her entire family dedicating herself unselfishly. She was an accomplished cook who loved entertaining family and friends with her famous dishes. In her spare time she also enjoyed sewing and knitting. Mrs. Cushman was proud of her Italian heritage passing its customs and traditions to her family members. Survivors include her beloved family; her children: Rosemarie Malorzo and husband Joseph of Frankfort, John Cushman and wife Regina of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Mayor Mark Cushman and wife Shelley of Ilion; two brothers: Joseph Grippe of Frankfort and Anthony Grippe and wife Arlene of Frankfort; two sisters: Grayce Grippe and Evelyn Harte both of Frankfort; seven beloved grandchildren: Melanie Malorzo, Marcia Malorzo-Varin and husband John, Lisa Cushman, Alison Cushman-Schumancer and husband John, John Cushman, Rachel Cushman and Christiana Cushman; three cherished great grandchildren: Aleaha, Kristen and Alyssa; many nieces, nephews and cousins and inlaws: Mary and Frank Cushman of Herkimer, Carmella Scanio of Utica and Mary Miller of Rome. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Sam, Louis and Frank Grippe and sister, Marie Grippe. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home on Sunday, January 3, 2010 from 3-7 p.m. Mrs. Cushman’s funeral will commence at 10:00 am on Monday, January 4, 2010 from Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., town of Frankfort where prayer will be offered and at 10:30 am at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor assisted by Deacon James Bower. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort next spring. Kindly consider memorial offerings to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. The family offers its sincere thanks to the personnel of the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, Ilion whom attended to Mrs. Cushman with outstanding care and compassion.
