Obituary of Frank DeJohn

Ilion: Frank J. DeJohn, 88, a resident of Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center (formerly Mohawk Valley Nursing Home), Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Mr. DeJohn resided in Mohawk prior to moving to the healthcare center. Frank was born on December 16, 1920 in Frankfort, a son of the late Thomas and Rosa (Terravechio) DeJohn. He attended Frankfort schools; then served in the United States Navy. On May 2, 1942, he married the former Eva Cancelino at St. Anthony’s Church in Herkimer. Frank and Eva enjoyed a loving union of 59 years, until her passing on October 25, 2001. Frank was a truck driver for many years, his last employment being with Talarico Quarry in Herkimer, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church, Herkimer, a life member of the Herkimer VFW and their color guard, the Teamsters Union and the Seabee’s. He was proud to have been the coach for the first girls’ hardball team in Herkimer. Frank is survived by his loving family; his son: Thomas DeJohn and wife Colleen of Houston, TX; his daughter: Rosa Bifora and husband Peter of Alexandria Bay; brother: Leo DeJohn and wife Irene of Florida; a sister: Josephine (Pippy) Branck of Frankfort; grandchildren: Lynnel Anderson, Laurel Bifora, and Daniel DeJohn; 3 great-grandchildren: Angie DeJohn, Taylor DeJohn, and Thomas DeJohn; a sister-in-law: Mrs. Jemma (Frank) Cancelino; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva; his parents; brothers: Joseph and James DeJohn; and sisters: Angela Spencer and Mary Forlano. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. DeJohn’s funeral service on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort (894-8000). The family will receive guests from Noon until the time of the service. Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, 99 Sixth Avenue, Ilion, NY 13357. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home; envelopes will be available, as well.
